# Actions

Actions are the central component of Engage that lets you determine the specific categories of visitors you would like to communicate with (using [criteria](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions.md#adding-criteria-to-actions)), indicate the exact type of experience you would like them to have when interacting with your website (by selecting the relevant [action type ](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md#action-types)and[ templates](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md#templates)), and finally, choose the timing and frequency at which your messages are to be displayed (by specifying the [trigger types](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/when.md)).

Actions reside within [conversations](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/conversations.md) on the [Campaign](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns.md) level of Engage.

To add a new action, navigate to your current conversation, and click on the round **+** (New Action) button on the right of the **Actions** tab. In the window **Add Action**, enter the name and optional description for your action.\
You can also duplicate an existing action in case you've already added some actions before. Just select the previously added action from the drop-down menu, enter the name and optional description of the duplicated action, then click **Submit**.

After you've created an action, you can manage it by using the tools located on the right of the **Actions** panel: **Last Edit Date** (Click on the date, and a tooltip message will show the full details), **Activate** or **Deactivate Action**, **Edit Action** (to change the action’s name and description), **Delete Action**, **Cancel Action Changes** (can be used only before the action has been saved), and **Save Action**.&#x20;

![Tools on the Action panel](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FmH7IIYdyy1v1gylUjSLF%2Flast%20edit%20info-%20action.png?alt=media\&token=0610239e-301d-43f6-912e-58e254780e90)

Clicking on the panel with the action's name will make it collapse. Clicking on it once more will make it expand.

![Expanding and collapsing actions](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2F-MHAgG2lewHzWpbRgYLN%2F-MHAil8CfSLdZBqk8RQo%2Fengage_actions_expand_collapse.gif?alt=media\&token=9011e407-2ecc-4a5f-93a7-20513746cf01)

Additionally, actions belonging to the same conversation can be dragged and dropped in case you need to change their order:

![Changing the order of actions](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-legacy-files/o/assets%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2F-MGsa3soKa3cFB1txJrA%2F-MGwDWqsX7wetMDxR8Ug%2Fengage_actions_dragndrop.gif?alt=media\&token=0cb33b05-7f84-4ab0-bc64-ca75380adf60)

This is especially useful when you are managing multiple actions in a single conversation.

## Action header Filters, Bulk Operations, and Multi-select Feature

The following features are available on the Actions tab header from version 2025.4:

1. Action header Filters
   1. Filter by Action Type
   2. Filter by Status
2. Bulk Operations
3. Multi-select Feature&#x20;
   1. Select-All checkbox
   2. Multi-selection<br>

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FckkV8OE67i8xEJX615Iq%2FFilters%20%26%20multi-select%20checkbox.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=91202e81-3c2e-47c1-884a-9f228bfcdfcb" alt=""><figcaption><p>Filters, Bulk operation icons, and the Select all checkbox</p></figcaption></figure>

These features are especially useful when managing Conversations that contain multiple Actions with different Action types and statuses.&#x20;

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Action header Filters" %}

1. **Filter by Action Type**

The **Filter Action Type** allows you to display Actions based on their specific Action Type. This filter is particularly useful when a Conversation contains multiple Actions of different types. If no filter is applied, all Actions, regardless of their type, are displayed.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FpgWKWxn87AdrAkPP33rI%2FAction%20Type%20Filter.gif?alt=media&amp;token=ac603b36-8f01-4c9f-97a8-591fadcd5d6e" alt=""><figcaption><p>Filtering Actions by their Action Type</p></figcaption></figure>

2. **Filter by Status**

The **Filter Status** allows you to display Actions based on their status (**Active** or **Inactive**). You can filter Actions by their status alone or combine it with an Action type, as shown in the example below.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FsrIUtYZAyhtUNQcMRtu6%2FActive%20inactive%20filter.gif?alt=media&amp;token=c67700e6-7637-490a-bf58-46409fc7c66f" alt=""><figcaption><p>Filtering Actions by their Status (Active/Inactive)</p></figcaption></figure>

You can clear applied filters by clicking the cross button on the multi-select filter dropdowns. Clicking the cross button removes all selected filters at once, and the page will display all Actions without any filters.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2F1yHY4DmowwnTD9HgCG1U%2Fcross%20button%20on%20filter%20dropdown.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=aa9191cd-fa79-4d69-890a-7960b86a1565" alt=""><figcaption><p>Cross button that clears the selected filter values</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Bulk Operations" %}
**Bulk operations** let you perform the same operation on multiple Actions at once. A set of bulk operation icons is available in the Actions tab header.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FO4kKrXt2HRKrIIjiAQQN%2FBulk%20operation%20icons.jpg?alt=media&amp;token=c3aaeafe-5454-44c6-ad23-fd3796f4d0f9" alt=""><figcaption><p>Bulk Operation icons on the Actions tab header</p></figcaption></figure>

To perform a bulk operation:

1. Select the desired Actions using the checkbox next to each Action. Refer to the clip below.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FPJ6r5j1buOrTHcNv7xd4%2FSelecting%20individual%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=261e2382-c2f1-41cb-a968-a2bcf4a93d9b" alt=""><figcaption><p>Selecting multiple Actions for bulk operations</p></figcaption></figure>

2. Click the appropriate bulk operation icon in the Actions tab header to apply the operation.&#x20;

#### 1. Deactivating multiple Actions ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FWpjXS81j5pWPomhSVSGz%2FDeactivate%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=3f08b7b6-acbc-4c87-b79b-96b1cf28ee2f)

Clicking the bulk **Deactivate** button makes all selected Actions in a Conversation inactive.

When you click the Deactivate button, a confirmation message appears:\
*“You are about to deactivate the selected Actions. Do you want to continue?”*

The dialog provides **Continue** and **Cancel** options:

* Clicking **Continue** deactivates the selected Actions.
* Clicking **Cancel** closes the dialog without deactivating.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FVGddRmS0M2kCxk6hXETM%2FDeactivating%20multiple%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=3a35ccd0-0a42-4b6d-9ca9-8e03e9db2b3f" alt=""><figcaption><p>Deactivating multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>

**Note**: The Deactivate button is enabled only when at least one active Action is selected.

#### 2. Activating multiple Actions  ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FJUCdmPS4pPYkA2vVHCYd%2FActivate%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=5260f6e7-e023-4bd3-9138-7c0737027784)

Clicking the bulk **Activate** button activates all the selected inactive Actions. Refer to the clip below:

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2F6Z62zpZlSOxRpK94hjOA%2FActivating%20multiple%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=b668bcde-f720-4a6c-9b2d-1c5d46b58138" alt=""><figcaption><p>Activating multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>

**Note**: The Activate button is enabled only when at least one disabled Action is selected.

When both active and inactive Actions are selected in the list, clicking the Activate button will only affect the inactive Actions. The active Actions remain unchanged. The inactive Actions will be activated once the user provides consent on the confirmation screen. A similar behavior applies to the Deactivate button.

An explicit Save action is not required here; the active/inactive status is applied immediately after the user accepts the confirmation.

If the system encounters an error for one or more (but not all) of the selected Actions during bulk activation/deactivation, it will still apply the changes to the Actions that can be processed successfully. An appropriate info message will be displayed in such cases.

#### 3. Duplicating Actions   ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FkmdzLgIUyw5ZTjldfKXq%2FCopy%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=0db82990-855a-4508-8126-e84a7dd3b6c7)

Clicking the bulk **Copy** button creates one duplicate of each selected Action. The newly created Action is named as "\<parent Action name>\_New" and displayed directly below the parent Action. You may rename the duplicated Action if needed.&#x20;

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FCMdiHoMyS2KRgXvB95Bu%2FCopying%20multiple%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=f39c2112-76f7-4604-8789-6f09bc89613e" alt=""><figcaption><p>Creating copies of multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>

**Note**:&#x20;

* The bulk Copy button is enabled only when at least one Action is selected. Inactive Actions can also be duplicated.
* Once the Actions for duplication are selected, they are displayed in a tabular format (‘Duplicate Selected Actions’) for confirmation. An info message is shown at the top of the window, indicating the naming rule applied to duplicated Actions. You can deselect any unwanted Actions to avoid duplication, and if needed, rename the new Actions within the same window.
* The new Action name is displayed in a single line within the confirmation window, even if it exceeds the column width. You can scroll horizontally within the column to view the full name.
* The 'Description' for duplicated Actions will remain empty (null by default.

#### 4. Delete Actions  ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FUylvMxMqC3uWpRWCisKx%2FDelete%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=d0ac84c8-ebc3-4e98-abfd-d867e6da44d7)

Clicking the bulk **Delete** button deletes the selected Actions after confirming the operation from the user.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FGzWJLB0CMPy7hdvZd1TQ%2FDeleting%20multiple%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=6caf51ec-4857-4a6f-a141-0794b1741324" alt=""><figcaption><p>Deleting multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>

**Note**: Before deleting selected Actions, a confirmation window "Delete Selected Actions" is displayed, showing the list of Actions to be deleted. It also informs that those files cannot be recovered after deletion. To exclude an Action from deletion, unselect it from the list. You can also cancel the bulk delete operation by clicking the Cancel button on the confirmation window.

#### 5. Save Actions  ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FP6yBe5Jbg6cjUikBTApH%2FSave%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=6296f94e-8766-4d46-8cd7-e742dd7554c2)

Clicking the bulk **Save** button saves multiple unsaved operations of all selected Actions in a single click after confirmation. Please note that bulk saving applies only to those Actions that are selected.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FwsPEtuUFH7dP5Gr7KTx2%2FSaving%20multiple%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=d74a8f43-cdab-424c-9e6f-c5f137533dea" alt=""><figcaption><p>Saving multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>

**Note**: The Bulk Save button is enabled only when at least one Action is selected.

If any of the selected Actions trigger an internal warning, the bulk save will not proceed. An information message is displayed: 'Unable to save all selected Actions. Please validate the highlighted Actions.' Bulk save is possible only after individually correcting the highlighted operations in the selected Actions.

#### 6. Expand/Collapse Actions   ![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FJIhyFpFDd1MSdJC9LNWt%2FExpand%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=bf2dd037-e76c-41b2-b035-f694ca0168b4)![](https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FKDcBFUSBXCq1QWo5qC2y%2FCollapse%20button.jpg?alt=media\&token=e2927700-9211-4825-bd75-59a9a8244424)

Clicking the **Expand** button expands all the selected Actions, and clicking the **Collapse** button collapses all the selected expanded Actions.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FyUwbK9appHxu0T2yYBbO%2FExpand%20or%20collapse%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=ba9ac5a4-2ca1-481e-85f4-c01bc9cf667c" alt=""><figcaption><p>Expanding/Collapsing multiple selected Actions</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Multi-select Feature" %}

1. **Select All checkbox**

Clicking the **Select All** checkbox selects **all** displayed Actions in a Conversation. To perform the same operation on all displayed Actions, first select the **Select All** checkbox, and then click the required bulk operation icon on the Actions tab header.

Refer to the example below, where all the displayed Actions are selected, deactivated, and then reactivated.

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FWyklTfhfklxSuUAPwfSq%2FSelecting%20all%20Actions.gif?alt=media&amp;token=0e99a86f-adb4-47a0-81a9-c8e8fa710d5b" alt=""><figcaption><p>Selecting all Actions for activating/deactivating them</p></figcaption></figure>

2. Multi-selection

You can also select multiple Actions by checking individual checkboxes along each Action to perform a bulk operation.&#x20;

Refer to the example below:

<figure><img src="https://2189759649-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F-MGi2iapIi_G2XvKxDCc%2Fuploads%2FqbkRUBGuCtUcA8Xltb0l%2Fmulti-select%20video.gif?alt=media&amp;token=ba246288-342e-4e5d-91b0-624d40cffbb5" alt=""><figcaption><p>Selecting multiple Actions for a bulk operation</p></figcaption></figure>
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## **WHO, WHAT, and WHEN**

Each action is divided into three sections containing the settings that serve different purposes.&#x20;

Under [**WHO**](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/who.md) you get to decide on the exact type of visitors this action will apply to (by selecting the action's[ criteria](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/who.md#criteria)). \
Under [**WHAT**](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md), you determine the appropriate[ action type](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md#action-types), select the template for it (as well as specify different [template](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md#templates) settings for each of the [device types](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/what.md#device-types) that your visitors are likely to use), and configure its behavior on your page. \
Under [**WHEN**](/engage/-MGi9-KKLwnWfoD36Ot6/fundamentals/campaigns/actions/when.md) you can specify the exact point in time at which your action is displayed, the frequency with which it appears on the page, as well as the conditions under which it is to be triggered.&#x20;
