# Active Users

In the topbar the users that are active in the article are displayed.

## Active user

If there is only one user active, that means there is only one user that has the article open for editing.

The avatar can be displayed with an image or as short letters of your name.

The users that have the articles open for editing are displayed in the topbar. As there is no unsaved changes the lock is open.

## Unlocking an article

The article is temporalily locked by another user if there are unsaved changes. If you unlock the article the changes by the active user will be lost. It is recommended that you check with the other user if you can proceed and unlock. ## Changes by another user

The other active user will get a notice that the article is changed.

The [IMID-tracker-plugin](https://plugins.writer.infomaker.io/v1/infomaker/im-imidtracker/latest/README.html) is responsible for rendering of the Active user display in the writer, see [docs for plugins.](https://plugins.writer.infomaker.io/) The avatar images should be configured either in Concept Admin in Dashboard or as a gravatar ([gravatar.com](http://gravatar.com/)).
