Basic Workflow
Welcome to Naviga Plan
Naviga Plan is designed for use with Adobe InDesign and well as several 3rd Party Editorial Systems. It also works in conjunction with our own Editorial System, NCS Content. Naviga Plan is typically installed in the Naviga AWS Cloud and users connect to the planning application via AWS Workspaces.
Orders and materials will flow from Naviga Ad to Naviga Plan where a Plan user will layout the Ads. From there, the plan is sent onwards to the editorial system so that system knows where to place the ads onto the final pages, along with the stories.
Your site manages Naviga Plan in the Naviga Plan Setup application (PSS), where your system administrator can select many options and designate many defaults. Your system administrator also uses Plan Setup to configure your products, sections, and much more. Setup & Integration Applications can also be found on this site
Note: If using Plan in conjunction with NCS Content, to understand what happens in NCS Content after the plan is sent, please refer to the NCS Content System User Guides.
Regardless of the Editorial system in use, the system administrator must set up Naviga Plan Setup so that it designates your site’s Products, desks (if applicable), users, status codes, categories, priority codes, and so forth.
If this has not been set up, see your system administrator.
Each plan is unique, but many aspects of plans are similar. All your printed newspaper’s plans share certain characteristics of layout, design, and style. Over the course of a week, a newspaper may change considerably, but from week to week it has many similarities.
In Naviga Plan, you can design a plan, designate the sections and the number of pages in each section, and assign certain ad classifications to each page. You can designate the numbers of columns and section numbers/letters for each section. You can also save the plan as a template to be used as a basis for future plans. You will probably develop many templates, one or more for each day of the week, others for holidays, and so forth. You can have as many templates as you need.
Basic Workflow
Your workflow may vary from the following basic workflow. Detailed description of each step will be in the chapters to follow.
When an ad is booked to a run date, a plan is created. It has no pages until it is opened and a template is assigned. See Creating a new plan
When you open a plan for the first time, you can apply a template to the plan or design the plan from scratch.
You can set up and reorganize the pages in a plan. See Pages -> Page Sets
Place ads booked to a run date on the plan’s pages automatically or manually. See Planning ads
Check the Ad List to be sure all ads are planned. See Window -> Ad Lists
Rearrange any ad’s position on the pages of the plan. See Moving ads in the Plan.
Justify the ads on each page, with or without fillers. See Justifying ads.
Place large fillers manually. On classified pages, make sure headers are in the right classifications (sections). You can move them or replace them in the Filler Library. See Fillers
Check for any ads that have the following problems.
If your site uses the Failed Preferred feature, look for ads not in their preferred positions and move them.
Move any ads that clash.
Verify that there are no back-to-back coupons.
Verify that each customer’s scatter ads are not together.
Output pages to Editorial or InDesign. See Outputting pages
